SMac's Grumpy Old Blog

I must be at that age when one turns into a grumpy old man. Well...this is my grumpy old blog... Shout at the TV news in disbelief? Annoyed by the dumb things you see people doing? Then you might be grumpy too!

Hi there! And welcome to my "Grumpy Old Blog". My little space on the Interweb to vent my petty frustrations about everyday life.

So, where to start? What one single thing annoys me the most? To be honest, I duno, but a little ping from my PC speaker while I write this has just alerted me to some incoming mail. I had better check it, it may be important. Mumble amongst yourselves for a bit while I go looksee..............
goes off to check mail.....

several minutes later......

Phew! I'm so glad I checked.
Apparently my offshore account at the Bank of Nairobi has been suspended :( I had to confirm all my bank and credit card details to reactivate it. But WAIT!...There's more. Allegedly my girlfriend could be cheating on me (yeah! that's what I thought, with me being so hunky and all that). Something to do with erectile disfunction (whatever that is, I have no idea). Fortunately, there was a link to some online pharma company in Hung-Lo province, China, so I could buy a stock of generic Viagra™. Another task for the ol' credit card, glad I have funds in my new offshore bank (Now, when exactly did I set that up? Nevermind, it's not important I'm sure).

OK guys! I could carry on with this daft scenario for ages, but you may have already guessed my peeve for this post. It's SPAM! I hate it, you hate it, EVERYONE hates it! We're all totally fed up with the 15 - 20 minute per day it takes to sift through your legitimate mail to delete all this total dross. IMHO it's even more annoying than the junk mail recieved in the regular post. At least there is an organisation that can do something about that (here in the UK anyways), check out the Mailing Preference Service. It's easier to sort too, I have a regular mailbox outside, and a paper recycling bin labelled "Junk Mail" just below it - let the postie sort it for you! If only.......... well, ......actually..., I found this site just recently that claims to be able to put an end to a majority of spam. Check out BlueSecurity, [ed. as of 18/May/06 the Blue Security site no longer exists, along with the Blue Frog. Beaten by a determined DDOS attack from the spammers] they have worked for me, my spam count is WAY down.

In a way it's a shame, as I had such a brillaint idea for what to do with all these unsollicited messages. A power source for the future! - I was printing them all out and putting them in the recycling bin for incineration at the local power plant, that burns household waste to convert to electricity. It was almost (just almost though) as good as my hot buttered cat power generator. But that's another story.........
